New Captains announced...
The Captains for the Leicester Longhorns 2009 – 2010 season were announced at the teams Awards Night on Saturday 4th June. The process, which included a team vote, saw second year Linebacker/Full Back Andy MacKenzie named as Team and Special Teams Captain.

The vote for Offensive Captain saw James Ashmore keep his Captain's armband for another year. Tommy Gibbs was named as Offensive Captain, following three years of service to the Longhorns. The vote for Defensive Captains saw no surprises, with both of last years captains returning: Karl Sears and John Oxley will lead out the defence for the 2009 – 2010 season.
HC Coach's Report - September 2009
Another month closer to the season - I hope you are all enjoying your summer holidays now and congratulations to all departing players who have achieved their degrees!

Let us not forget though, that physical conditioning - unlike your exam revision - cannot be done overnight. Make sure you hit the gym; the track or even the floor to do some press-ups! Come back in better shape than you left is my message to all!

Our provisional schedule has been announced - along with the old foes and divisional rivals, we have some new opponents and I look forward to clashing with Huddersfield, Leeds Met and Nottingham Trent next season for the first time.

We have another summer minicamp lined up for Saturday 29th August. Our plan is to make a bit more of a day of it, with a BBQ afterwards so we can enjoy the sunshine in style: football, meat and beer!

If you're going on holiday or travelling this summer, enjoy it and stay safe out there. If you're working, well done, get your ££s in while you can. Whatever you're doing, save time for some gym work, check out the forum and look over your playbooks! See you in August!

Finish Tough, Coach Duncan

Well into summer and the Longhorn migration is in full swing - not many of you left in Leicester, I know!
Us coaches are still here and itching to get started on our new season, which I hope you all are too. Our preparations are in full swing, mainly with a pen in hand - while yours will involved barbells...it all amounts to the same goal!
The BAFCA convention was held in Loughborough last weekend and was a truly valuable experience. I'd like to thank the whole of BAFCA for organising, the Loughborough players and coaches for facilitating, but most of all the speakers. In particular Coach Shawn Watson, who gave many valuable insights in his seminars and also took some time out to talk to me about what we're doing at the Longhorns and how we can get better. The good news for all of us, is that he likes the sound of what we're doing - so we're on the right track! Oh, he's offensive coordinator for a Big 12 school you may have heard of: Nebraska!
I hope you're all working hard - whether it be to pay your rent, stockpile some pounds or come back fitter and stronger next season. Minicamp will be on Saturday 29th August at Stoneygate - full details in next month's spot.

September: The first month of football!
We have a lot coming up that we can all look forward to at the end of the month - Freshers' Week, pulling in some new recruits and getting our pre-season started in earnest.
We had a great Minicamp on 29th August, with some great effort from the players who were there. I hope a good time was had by all...and there was no food poisoning afterwards?! Big thanks to Coach John for arranging a lot of the things that made mc2 that little bit special!
As well as the start of the BUAFL season to look forward to, the NCAA season is upon us (Go Trojans!), with the NFL soon to follow. These weekly events are a great opportunity to get together with your mates - Varsity is a great venue to go to watch the games, so support our sponsor and enjoy the best sport in the world being played at the highest levels.

Finish Tough! Coach Duncan
